Waste Collections Truck Using Onboard Scales.
Accuweigh's SA branch recently fitted an onboard weighing systems to one of Veolia's
liquids collection tankers to allow for more cost effective route planning during a
collection run.
Accuweigh's PM Onboard weighing system gives the driver the ability to increase efficiency by selecting client pickups in a sequence that ensures the tankers capacity is fully utilised (without exceeding legal load limits) before needing discharging.
Because the tankers legal capacity is based on weight, the driver no longer has to make judgement calls on the volumetric ratio of liquids (lighter) compared to solids (heavier). If mainly liquids have been collected then it's entirely possible the tanker can be filled to volumeric capacity without exceeding the legal weight limits of the truck.
Alternately, if mainly solids have been collected then it's probable the tanker's contents will need to be discharged well before the actual tank capacity is reached. Overloading breaches will become a thing of the past as the driver will always know when the legal weight limit of the truck has been reached.
As well as increasing efficiency of collections, the Accuwiegh onboard weighing system can produce weight tickets for each collection and this data can possibly be used as a guide for future charge rates.
