Roads and Traffic Authority, Mount White
Accuweigh's Northern Regions Manager, Tim Francis, oversaw the installation and commissioning of this custom weighbridge at RTA's Mt White heavy vehicle checking station to ensure it met the strict requirements of NSW's Road Transit Authority.
Accuweigh's very competent weighbridge crews from both the Sydney and Newcastle branches worked together to ensure the tight timeframe was adhered to.
This multiple deck weighbridge is a very heavy duty unit, designed and built by QWM in Queensland, to suit the extreme working conditions at the Mt White facility. It is is 25 metres long by 4.5 metre wide and is fully hot dip galvanised to overcome potential corrosion problems caused by the waste liquids that can spill onto the weighbridge decks.
To maximise throughput, there are five individual weighbridge sections, each five metres long, to allow for all axle groups to be check weighed at the same time without the need for weighing the axle groups individually.
This unique weighbridge design uses inground beams for a flush deck surface that is completely level with the concrete hardstand - there are none of the usual raised channels or kerbing that generally create a safety hazard in this type of working environment.
This complex weighbridge layout required five Accuweigh 5000 digital weight indicators to communicate with a QWM 6700 summing indicator for displaying the individual axle groups as well as the total weigh of the truck. To enable the truck driver to also view the critically important weight readings, there are six Rinstrum D740 large digit remote displays mounted in an external cabinet.
The supply of the weighbridge to the RTA is a strong endorsement of the quality and professionalism of Accuweigh and its products. The RTA does not award the tender for new weighbridges to just any company, nor to the cheapest bid, but rather to the weighbridg supplier that displays the most rugged product.
The weighbridge represents a significant infrastructure investment for the RTA and must not only perform as intended when commissioned, but also perform long in to the future in order to represent a good investment.
