A truck scale was recently commissioned at a quarry near Townsville in North Queensland for weighing heavily laden trucks.
Manufactured by Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane, the truck scale features heavy duty construction to cope with the high traffic flow of vehicles in this busy quarry.
The truck scales were competently installed by QWM’s NQ agent; Accurate Systems in Townsville, for weighing truck loads of aggregate being removed from the quarry. With a weighing deck measuring eighteen metres by three metres wide, QWM’s truck scales are certified for trade use with a weighing capacity of sixty tonnes.
Truck scales fitted with a concrete weighing deck have many advantages over truck scales using steel decks, including:
• The reinforced concrete increases torsional strength of the truck scale deck for a longer life expectancy
• The weight of the heavy concrete resists deck movements under truck braking and acceleration and allows for faster vehicle weighings in windy conditions
• The mass of the concrete limits expansion and contraction of the main metal beams during short term temperate changes minimising excessive end-to end deck movements which can dramatically shorten load cell life
• Superior traction capabilities of concrete decks for trucks/trailers using access ramps in wet and muddy conditions
Truck scales fitted with steel decks are suited for many truck weighing applications, but each site needs to be judged on its merits to ensure the client received the best possible product to suit their needs. Accuweigh’s highly experienced staff can provide professional advice on the pros and cons for all truck scale applications.
Accuweigh is Australia’s largest supplier of truck scales and has fully trained service crews and test trucks located in eight branches covering all mainland states providing full service support.
