A shipping container weigher in Gympie was recently modified to minimise equipment downtime during scheduled testing and calibration procedures.
Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane supervised structural modification to allow test weights to be placed directly onto the container weigher.
Most shipping container weighers are based on a skeletal design and specifically fabricated to support shipping containers only by their edges/corners only. QWM also provides alternate designs of container weighers which include a reinforced weighing deck to allow palletised goods to also be easily weighed.
At this site, the calibrated test weights were previously required to be placed into an empty shipping container before being hoisted onto the container weigher by an overhead crane. This testing process was very time consuming for trade approved weighing applications as the licensed technicians must follow a rigid testing schedule designed to find weighing errors across the container weighers entire weighing range.
Structural changes to the shipping container weigher included placing beams and steel plates across the previously empty void to provide a weighing deck for the test weights to be loaded. Modifications were also made to the overhead gantry crane to allow it to lift and position the test weights using chains and steel bars.
QWM is Queensland’s oldest weighbridge manufacturer and specialises in providing heavy duty scales and weighing equipment. QWM staff has extensive industry experience in the sales and service of all industrial weighing applications.
