A heavy duty weighbridge manufactured by Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane is being used for weighing trucks entering and leaving a stockfeeds plant in Roma, Queensland. QWM’s weighbridges are designed to cope with high traffic flows of heavily laden vehicles with minimal maintenance requirements.
This weighbridge is fitted with a concrete deck to better cope with short term temperature fluctuations as regularly experienced in Western Queensland. The forty plus tonnes of heavily reinforced concrete used in the weighbridge deck adds substantial mass to the large steel beams to minimise deck expansion and contraction during cold snaps.
Restricting the clearances between the ends of the weighbridge and the buttresses is critically important to eliminate excessive deck movements during cold periods. All weighbridges require seasonal adjustments to the end stops to ensure adequate clearance during the summer months when the weighbridge deck can extend 5-10mm in length.
As the weighbridge deck contracts during winter, the end stop bolt clearances then need to be minimised to avoid undue load cell wear caused by the excessive deck movements. A steel deck weighbridge is more prone to expansion & contraction of the weighing deck which significantly affects the end stop clearances.
QWM’s heavy duty weighbridge comprises a single concrete deck measuring 28 metres long by 3.5 metres wide to enable B Double trucks to be weighed in a single weighing transaction. A driver access platform with safety rails and steps was also fitted to the weighbridge to ensure driver safety when the driver exits the truck cab to collect a weighbridge weight ticket.
Accuweigh is Australia’s largest industrial weighing company and has weighbridge crews based in all mainland states providing service, testing and repairs on all brands of weighbridges.
