An onboard weighing system was recently commissioned on a waste collection vehicle in Queensland. Installed by Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane, the onboard weighing system is used for attaining the weight of material in each bin.
The onboard weighing system comprises a pressure transducer fitted into the hydraulic lines of the bin lifting mechanism and a waterproof digital weight indicator in a stainless steel housing is mounted on the rear of the truck in clear view of the operator. The lifting mechanism is paused momentarily for weighing at a predetermined position to ensure consistent and accurate weight readings are achieved.
The onboard weighing system was necessary as part of the client’s OH&S to ensure the bins are not regularly being overloaded which could be detrimental to the trucks hydraulic lifting mechanism and also cause unnecessary strain on the operator when manoeuvring overloaded bins for lifting.
