A multi-deck weighbridge measuring twenty-eight metres long was recently commissioned for Laminex Industries in Gympie to eliminate instances of inadvertent truck overloading.
Supplied by Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane, the multi-deck weighbridge comprises four individual weighbridge decks to allow the weight of each axle group to be shown on individual displays. Multi-deck weighbridges can address the primary cause of vehicle overloading fines – overloaded axle group weights. Although a truck/trailer combination may be well within legal Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) it is very possible for individual axle group weights to still exceed legal axle loadings.
Under the Chain of Responsibility Legislation, all companies and individual even remotely linked to a vehicle found to be overloaded while on public roads can be implicated in court proceedings and liable for heavy fines. A properly configured multi-deck weighbridge can assist with easy identification of overloaded axle groups while also displaying the total vehicle mass during a single weighing transaction.
Each deck of the multi-deck weighbridge is fitted with its own digital weight indicator with the summed total of all decks displayed by a separate digital summing indicator. Five large digit remote displays relay the weight readings of each weighing deck to the forklift operators loading the truck and the truck driver. Not only can a multi-deck weighbridge eliminate accidental overloading, it can also help maximise payload carrying capacity through optimised load positioning that can lead to significant increases in transportation efficiency.
