An In-Motion Axle Weigher was recently commissioned at the ADF’s Amberley barracks in Ipswich, Queensland. Supplied by Accuweigh’s QWM branch, the In-Motion Axle Weigher is used to ensure ADF vehicles leaving the base comply with legal axle loadings.
Unlike static axle weighers which require the vehicle to stop with each individual axle on the scale platform, Accuweigh’s In-Motion Axle Weigher acquires accurate axle loadings from vehicles as they are driven slowly across the weighing platform without stopping. Installed in a shallow pit level with the road surface, the In-Motion Axle Weigher measures 4 metres wide by 1 metre long and has a weighing capacity of 40,000 kg.
The saving in time and convenience for the ADF by not requiring each axle to be weighed statically can be considerable on longer truck & trailer combinations such as low loaders. The driver enters the vehicle details into the weight integrator and then slowly drives the vehicle across the axle scales before returning to collect a printed weight ticket listing each individual axle weight plus the total vehicle weight.
