EXTRA HEAVY DUTY WEIGHBRIDGE INSTALLED IN KARRATHA WA

An extra heavy duty weighbridge was recently installed in Karratha for weighing trucks entering and exiting the port bringing materials for the Pluto 2 Gas Project.

Accuweigh’s Perth branch supplied and commissioned the strengthened weighbridge that is also being used for weighing heavy shipping containers carried by Kalmar DCE heavy duty forklifts.

To ensure the weighbridge can cope with the high point loadings imposed by the large forklifts carrying fully loaded containers, heavier steel beams measuring 610mm high were used to increase structural rigidity of the weighbridge frame. The depth of the concrete used in the weighbridge deck was also increased to 400mm.

To suit the heavier carrying capacity of the weighbridge, adjustable end stops cast into the concrete end walls were complemented by additional stops in the centre of the weighbridge beams to prevent excessive weighbridge movements caused by harsh braking and acceleration of the trucks and forklifts. The project managers provided their own civils contractor to construct the weighbridge foundations and access ramps to Accuweigh’s requirements.

Accuweigh’s above ground style weighbridge measures 30 metres long x 3.5 metres wide with the exceptionally heavy weighbridge deck supported on 10 x 50t stainless steel weighbridge load cells. An Accuweigh R5000 digital weight indicator generates the weight readings which are also transmitted to a large digit external remote display for viewing by truck drives and forklift operators.

Accuweigh is Australia’s largest industrial weighing company and has eight branches across Australia providing weighbridge sales and service support to all mainland states.
