Accuweigh’s QLD branch recently completed the installation and commissioning of two 60,000kg capacity, trade certifiable silo weighing systems at Boral’s new Pinkenbah plant in Qld.
The two weighing silos are used for storing the raw gypsum as used in the manufacture of plasterboards by Boral with both silos fully calibrated for weighing up to 60,000kg capacity in increments of 20kg.
The installation was not an easy one with the loadcells mounted 12 metres above ground and out of reach of the supplied cherry picker. Accuweigh's branch manager, Michael Clarke, volunteered to undertake the precarious task of negotiating the narrow framework after fitting himself with the required safety harnesses. Michael completed the task of installing the eight loadcells, restraining hardware and loadcell cabling to the load bearing points around the circumference of each silo with his every move being closely monitored by his support crew (at ground level).
Eight Flintec RC3 trade approved loadcells were used and mounted in restraining hardware as supplied by Ultrahawke in Melbourne. The weighing instrumentation was taken care of by two Rinstrum R5000 digital weight indicators mounted in custom stainless steel protective housing suitable for external use. The Rinstrum indictaors were also fitted with 4-20mA output cards to enable the host SCADA software complete control of the weighing process.
