A Driver Control Station (DCS) was recently fitted to a weighbridge at the Berth 29 Precinct at Flinders Port in South Australia.
Installed by Accuweigh’s Adelaide branch, the Driver Control Station is being used for monitoring truck movements in and out of the port.
The Driver Control Station eliminates the need for a weighbridge operator to perform truck weighing duties by allowing truck drivers to enter basic load details with minimal training. Supplied by AASoftware, the Driver Control Station is mounted beside the weighbridge in a weather proof stainless steel enclosure and also controls a boom gate, traffic lights and photo-electric sensors to ensure trucks are correctly positioned on the Weigh Bridge.
The Wharf Manager/Shift Operator enters all required driver selections into the Driver Control Station such as ship name, products and destination details. Each driver is issued with a Dallas Tag which stores basic truck details such as owner, driver and the tare weights of the truck/trailer. To initiate a weighing transaction, the driver enters the weighbridge, presses the tag to the tag reader for the Driver Control Station to store the net weight of the truck’s contents. The boom gate open and the traffic lights turn green to allow the truck to exit the weighbridge.
The Driver Control Station is remotely connected to a PC in the Flinders Port office located a distance of over two kilometres away by using a combination of fibre-optic cable and wireless networking signals. This remote access allows Port staff to modify the allocated selections available to the drivers from the relative comfort of their office.
