WEIGHBRIDGES – TWIN DECKS

Using 2 x 20 metre weighbridge decks end to end will allow B Doubles and road trains to be weighed in a single weighbridge transaction. Weighbridges with twin decks are available in two different configurations:

1. As a single weighbridge weighing deck that comprises two individual weighbridge decks with both decks connected to a single digital weight indicator. This weighbridge configuration is the most cost effective solution but only displays the total vehicle mass of vehicles on the combined weighbridge decks.
2. As a true twin deck weighbridge with each deck connected to its own digital weight indicator. This weighbridge configuration displays the weight on each individual weighbridge deck separately. A digital summing indicator is then used to display the total combined weight of both weighbridge decks.

The advantages of using a true twin deck weighbridge is that axle group weights can usually be acquired for B Doubles and shorter truck/trailer combinations without requiring extended weighbridge approaches. Displaying the individual axle group weights should greatly diminish instances of truck overloading.

Twin deck weighbridge designs (also called dual deck weighbridges) are available as above ground weighbridges, inground weighbridges or semi-pit weighbridges.
