Public weighbridges and their operators must both be licensed and the weighbridge must be operated in accordance with the requirements of Trade Measurement Legislation.
Public weighbridges are necessary to provide legal for trade weighings of all types of vehicles, the most common of which is loaded trucks and trailers. Trucks delivering product for sale by weight or cartage fee per tonne normally require a legal weight ticket from a trade certified weighbridge as proof of correct weight. If neither of the sites despatching or receiving the product has a suitable weighbridge, then usually a local public weighbridge is the only available means of providing a legal weight ticket.
Weight tickets from Public Weighbridges can also be used to ensure trucks/trailers comply with legal vehicle loadings. There is also a growing use in multi-deck weighbridges as public weighbridges as this type of weighbridge can readily identify individual axle group weights as well as total vehicle mass.
A public weighbridge is required to be be regularly inspected and serviced by an approved servicing licensee at no longer than 12 monthly intervals to ensure accuract weighting accuracy is maintained. Accuweigh has extensive industry experience with the supply and service of public weighbridges through a network of eight branches across mainland states.
