Axle weighbridges weigh a single axle group at any one time. Axle weighers are more economical than a full-length weighbridge, but require good quality approaches.
A purpose-built axle remote display and software accumulate the individual axle groups to display a total, which can be sent to a PC or other site equipment.
Axle weighbridge deckss are typically 4m long by 3m wide, and are installed in a pit. The decks tend to be low profile (lower than a full-length weighbridge) and therefore do not require as deep a pit as a full-length weighbridge.
In order to achieve maximum accuracy with axle weights, the quality of the entry and exit approaches must be considerably high (level to with ±3mm) for the entire length of the vehicle being weighed. The additional concrete and materials required to construct the precision approaches can make axle weighbridges a less attractive option compared to a full-length weighbridge.
