A cost effective payload monitoring system was recently fitted to a tip truck for a large regional council in Queensland.
Installed by Accuweigh’s Brisbane branch, the payload monitoring system fitted to a Volvo tipper uses a hybrid weighing system comprising both load cell and air bag weight sensors.
Accuweigh’s payload monitoring system included an air bag weighing system fitted to the rear suspension of the tipper workings in unison with a load cell mounted across the front cross member to provide total vehicle mass. The combined load cell and air bag weighing system has a weighing accuracy of less than 3% error on level ground which is adequate when functioning as a payload monitoring system.
Higher accuracy weighing applications are available using full load cells systems but at significantly increased cost over Accuweigh’s hybrid weighing system. Payload Monitoring Systems or onboard truck weighing systems are almost a mandatory for truck operators to provide a high level of protection against implication in overloading fines through the recently introduced Chain Of Responsibility Legislation.
