An axle weighbridge was custom manufactured for weighing oversize vehicles carrying large construction equipment for a client’s application at Dry Creek in South Australia. Supplied and installed by Accuweigh’s Port Adelaide branch, the Australian Made axle weighbridge measures five metres by six and a half metres.
McMahon Services required the oversize axle weighbridge to ensure all vehicles leaving the facility comply with legal axle load limits when transporting their extensive range of heavy earthmoving and construction equipment. The axle weighbridge is also used for weighing incoming demolition material for processing at the company’s on-site resource recovery plant.
Most axle weighbridges are designed for vehicle movements from only two directions with the main structural beams positioned under the proposed vehicle wheel tracks. In this application where vehicles and heavy machinery traverse the weighing deck from any angle, substantial deck reinforcing was required to cope with the exceptionally heavy point loading that could be expected.
Accuweigh’s axle weighbridge is pit mounted with the weighing deck at ground level with servicing and cleaning access through removable access hatches built into the heavy duty checker plate. For superior corrosion resistance in the external conditions, all steel work is fully hot dip galvanised and an automatic sump pump is fitted.
Four stainless steel weighbridge load cells of forty tonnes capacity each support the steel weighing deck with the weight readings generated by a digital weight indicator fitted with axle weighing software. A serial printer is connected to generate hardcopies of all weighing transactions over the axle weighbridge while a large digit remote display relays the weight readings to drivers.
