MECHANICAL SCALES SERVICED BY ACCUWEIGH

Mechanical Scales

Mechanical Scales are still being serviced and repaired by Accuweigh branches in all states. Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane, recently serviced, tested and calibrated a set of mechanical scales for an equipment hire company in Rocklea, Queensland.

With the change-over from mechanical scales to electronic scales almost complete, not all scale companies are retaining the highly valued skills required to competently service, repair and calibrate mechanical scales. This skills shortage is very unfortunate for the owners of the many thousands of sets of mechanical scales still in operation in all states which may eventually have to be replaced solely due to the unavailability of trained service staff willing to work on mechanical scales.

To ensure Accuweigh can continue to support clients still retaining mechanical scales and lever based weighing systems, regular training sessions are held in each branch.

The Avery 3551 mechanical scales serviced by QWM use an Avery 3550 lever system that was the industry standard mechanical weighing system in bench scales for over 40 years. A Salter mechanical headwork utilising springs, air dampers, rack, pinion and a metal pointer was used to indicate correct weight on a painted chart.

Accuweigh is keeping the past alive while also training for the future with experienced and trained staff located in eight branches across Australia capable of servicing and repairing all types of scales and weighing equipment.
