A Weighbridge Remote Display using LED digits was recently fitted to a weighbridge at NSW Sugar’s Broadwater mill in Northern New South Wales. Supplied by Accuweigh’s QWM branch in Brisbane, this LED based Remote Display replaced the previous unit that used electro-magnetic Flip Flop digits as some of the digit segments were no longer operating correctly.
Weighbridge Remote Displays using multi-segment Flip Flop
digits are highly visible due to their fluorescent yellow digits on a black background
and the multi-segments are ideal for displaying alpha characters. The main
drawback to using this type of display is that the low power solenoids used to control
each digit segment can be adversely affected by dust and moisture. These E/M digits
can be cleaned, serviced and/or replaced if parts are still available from the
manufacturer, but the cost to do so is prohibitive in most cases.
As this Weighbridge Remote Display is only being used for displaying
numeric weight data, a standard LED based unit was supplied and because LED
based Remote Displays don’t contain any moving parts, they are much more reliable
than their electro-mechanical counterparts. The latest generation LED Remote
Displays also have a much wider viewing angle compared to earlier versions and excessive
current drain is no longer a problem due to increased LED output efficiency.
Accuweigh’s Remote Display is fitted with a self-sensing brightness
control to automatically alter the display intensity for maximum display readability
under all ambient light conditions. This ensures maximum display brightness is only
used in full sunlight and automatically dims in progressive steps such as when under
dark clouds or for use at night.
