Inground Axle Scales required servicing after being flooded during recent storms in Brisbane.
Due to a lack of regular servicing, the pit drain had become blocked by rubbish and the recent deluge flooded the inground axle scales completely submerging the sensitive load cells. Accuweigh’s Brisbane based service crew responded to the client’s breakdown call to repair the aging trade approved Ultrahawke inground axle scales that performs a vital role in ensuring loaded trucks exiting the transport depot conform to legal load limits.
As the weighbridge pit was still submerged, a mobile crane was called to lift and remove the entire weighing deck from the axle scales pit to allow the drain to be unblocked and the pit drained. A large amount of mud and rubbish was shovelled out of the pit which was then flushed with fresh water before a thorough inspection found one of the load cells had failed due to water ingress.
While a replacement load cell was being sourced, the load cell cabling and junction box were fully tested and checked. Inspection of the Axle Scale weighing deck revealed heavy rusting of the load cell ball and cups mounting hardware which was cleaned and heavily greased before the weighing deck was refitted. The axle scales were fully tested and re-certified for trade use using Accuweigh’s weighbridge test unit to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
