An innovative steel foundation has been manufactured to allow concrete deck weighbridges to be easily relocated without the need for expensive and time consuming concrete civils works. Supplied by Accuweigh’s Perth branch, the steel foundations were manufactured to suit a client’s recently purchased 20 metre long concrete deck weighbridge.
Concrete deck weighbridges are inherently better suited for heavy duty weighing applications than lightweight steel deck weighbridges, but previously were very expensive to relocate due to the huge costs associated with concrete and civils requirements. The new steel foundation totally replaces the existing concrete foundations usually required by concrete deck weighbridges.
The heavy duty steel framework is simply positioned on compacted level ground and a concrete deck weighbridge is then securely bolted to the foundation’s main structural beams using the top and bottom load cell mounting hardware. The weighbridge foundations includes the weighbridge end walls as well as the reinforced one metre of level approaches as required for legal for trade weighing applications. The ground is then back-filled to the foundation’s end walls to form the weighbridge access ramps from both ends.
The ability to cost-effectively relocate a concrete deck weighbridge offers many advantages to quarrying operations as the weighbridge can be easily relocated closer to the point of loadings as the quarry grows. Re-positioning the weighbridge can lead to significant increases in loading efficiency by minimising truck turnaround times to optimise truck loaded weights.
