On-Board scales were recently fitted to a side tipping truck being supplied to Darwin City Council. The on-board scales were fitted to eliminate instances of accidental truck overloading.
The tipper truck fitted with the on-board scales was supplied to the council by local Isuzu truck dealer, Airpower Darwin. Michael Clarke from Accuweigh’s Salisbury branch flew to Darwin to oversee the installation and performed the digital setup and calibration of the on-board scales.
The Isuzu truck will also be fitted with an onboard crane to load the logs into the tray and the side tipper will be used to empty the load. Due to the weight variances in the logs, the on-board scales were required to ensure the truck driver is aware of the weight of the load at all times to prevent overloading.
Accuweigh is the exclusive Australian agent for the PM On-Board range of onboard truck scales and vehicle weighing systems from the UK. PM’s VanWeigh and light truck on-board scales use sensors mounted on the truck suspension to accurately monitor the weight on each wheel. The VanWeigh on-board scales have no moving parts and are not prone to weighing errors caused by stretched springs which is a common problem with other brands of on-board scales.
The digital weight indicator of the on-board scales is fitted in the cab and simultaneously displays the following truck weights on a single screen:
- Front axle loadings displayed as both weight and as a percentage of legal load.
- Rear axle loadings displayed as both weight and as a percentage of legal load
- Combined front and rear axle loadings displayed as both weight and as a percentage of legal load
To ensure the driver is aware of instances of overloading, both visual and audible alarms are automatically initiated. Accuweigh has eight branches across Australia providing complete after sales support in all mainland states.
