The South Australian Research & Development Institute (SARDI) is using HBM load cells fitted to a weigh hopper at the rear of a barley harvester for identifying grain yields.
Accuweigh’s Adelaide branch retro-fitted the HBM load cells to replace an alternate brand of load cells that weren’t suited for the rough treatment received as the barley harvester was driven around the fields.
The HBM “S” type load cells are an universal load cell which can be operated in either tension or compression applications. Metal flexures were fitted to the weigh hopper to provide extra protection for the load cells and to also stabilise the weigh frame for faster and more accurate weight readings.
The hopper scale fitted to the harvester based at Roseworthy is used to weigh the harvested barley from the various segregated crops to identify the different yields attained. A Rinstrum R323 digital weight indicator rated to IP65 was also fitted to replace the original weight indicator supplied with the harvester.
Accuweigh is Australia’s largest industrial weighing company and has branches in all mainland states providing complete after sales support on HBM load cells and all types of scales and weighing equipment.
