Accuweigh’s Adelaide branch recently integrated check weighing scales into a concrete block making line at Boral’s Pooraka plant.
The check weighing scales were fitted to the chain drag conveyor line to ensure the concrete besser blocks are of the correct density for QA purposes.
Before the commissioning of the automatic check weighing scales, an operator was required to physically remove random block samples from the moving conveyor line to weight them on a set of static scales, log the weight data and then return the heavy blocks to the production line. Automating this procedure has eliminated potential OH&S issues with handling the heavy concrete blocks.
The load cells of the check weighing scales are fitted into the chain drag conveyor and automatically weigh each line of blocks as they emerge from the ovens. A comparator light tower and audible alarms are used to alert the operator to out-of-tolerance weights and a data logger stores every weight reading for downloading to a PC after each shift.
